Step by Step
Step 1:
Get Your Dog Ready:
-
Make sure your dog is calm and in a sitting position.
-
Ensure your dog is alert and not slouched.
Step 2:
Use a Soft Measuring Tape:
-
Take a soft measuring tape.
-
Place the tape around the thickest part of your dog's neck, which is typically right above the shoulders.
-
Ensure the tape is snug but not too tight. You should be able to fit two fingers between the tape and your dog's neck to ensure comfort.
Step 3:
No Measuring Tape? Use a String:
-
If you don't have a measuring tape, use a piece of string or ribbon.
-
Wrap the string around the thickest part of your dog's neck, making sure it is snug but not tight.
-
Mark the point where the string meets.
-
Lay the string flat against a ruler or a standard tape measure to find the length.
Step 4:
Account for Extra Fluff:
-
If your dog has a lot of fur, add an extra 1 to 1.5 inches to the measured length to ensure a comfortable fit.
-
Example: If your dog’s neck measures 14 inches with the measuring tape and has thick fur, you would add an extra inch or 1.5 inches. The final measurement would be 15-15.5 inches.
Step 5:
Record the Measurement:
-
Write down the final measurement, including any added length for fluff.
