Step by Step

Step 1:

Get Your Dog Ready:

  • Make sure your dog is calm and in a sitting position.

  • Ensure your dog is alert and not slouched.

Step 2:

Use a Soft Measuring Tape:

  • Take a soft measuring tape.

  • Place the tape around the thickest part of your dog's neck, which is typically right above the shoulders.

  • Ensure the tape is snug but not too tight. You should be able to fit two fingers between the tape and your dog's neck to ensure comfort.

Step 3:

No Measuring Tape? Use a String:

  • If you don't have a measuring tape, use a piece of string or ribbon.

  • Wrap the string around the thickest part of your dog's neck, making sure it is snug but not tight.

  • Mark the point where the string meets.

  • Lay the string flat against a ruler or a standard tape measure to find the length.

Step 4:

Account for Extra Fluff:

  • If your dog has a lot of fur, add an extra 1 to 1.5 inches to the measured length to ensure a comfortable fit.

  • Example: If your dog’s neck measures 14 inches with the measuring tape and has thick fur, you would add an extra inch or 1.5 inches. The final measurement would be 15-15.5 inches.

Step 5:

Record the Measurement:

  • Write down the final measurement, including any added length for fluff.
